from Argentina, Dr. María J. Fraser-Molina was a public school teacher
for ten years before moving to the States with her family in 1985.
She received her Master of Arts in Teaching and Doctorate in
Spanish from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
At this institution, she taught language and literature courses
while pursuing her degrees.
In 1990, she started her career as a full-time Spanish instructor
at Durham Technical Community College where she is now Assistant Vice
President and Department Head of Arts, Sciences and University Transfer.
She is the Chair of the Global Learner Consortium Executive Board
at the North Carolina Community College System Office.
She represented Institutions of Higher Education at the Executive
Board of the Foreign Language Association of North Carolina, and is
co-founder and past president of the Foreign Language Instructors in
Community Colleges organization.
She has co-authored three Spanish textbooks.
One is an anthology of young Hispanic writers to teach
introductory literature courses at the college level.
Published by Prentice Hall, the book is entitled Nuevas
voces hispanas. Contextos
literarios para el debate y la
conversación.
Her second book was published by the same company.
Negocios sin fronteras is a textbook to teach intermediate business
Spanish in the college setting.
Carolina Academic Press is publishing her third book ¿Qué
le duele? Beginning Spanish for Health Care Professionals co-authored
with a colleague at DTCC. Her community involvement includes being a member of the Board of Directors of the Volunteer Center of Durham, Junior Leadership Durham, and TASCA, Taller de Salud Campesina, a non-profit organization working in Nicaragua to improve the quality of water in small cooperatives.
