SOCIEDAD NACIONAL HISPÁNICA

Home Nancy Zechiedrich was Sigma Delta Mu's third national president. She was an instructor at Westark College in Fort Smith, Arkansas. Her graduate studies were completed at the University of Arkansas. Her travels, both leading student groups and conducting tours, are extensive and include visits (or study) in: France, Spain, England, Germany, Ireland, Wales, Scotland, Mexico, Peru, Ecuador, Portugal, Morocco, and Central America. Many of these trips involved heading projects and/or directing groups to places such as Quebec, London, Madrid, Mexico City and even the Amazon. In addition to the realm of travel Nancy Zechiedrich has accomplished a great deal as a teacher and scholar. She has won two Phi Delta Kappa Awards for Outstanding Service in Higher Education and received her college’s Excellence in Teaching Award in 1988. She has participated in two NEH summer programs, one at Johns Hopkins and one at University of Kansas, and has undertaken summer seminars on literary translation, court interpreting, foreign language teaching, philological studies, and Costa Rican culture. She has presented at ACTFL and the CCHA (Community College Humanities Association) and has published on the "Paracas Textile."

Sigma Delta Mu has been thriving at Westark College since 1979. Chapter activities include presentation of Don Juan Tenorio (read with costumes and props) Día de la raza activities, displays, Latin dance instruction, and contribution to school and community events.
